The Junior Athlete
"Chloe Hosking is a 16 year old road and track cyclist who has graduated in the 06/07 summer racing season from the Junior ranks to Under 19s and is required to race regularly against Australia’s Elite women cyclists. Chloe has been training with Greg Laughlin for six months with the goal of increasing core strength, flexibility and gaining the skills and knowledge to remain injury free in what can be an arduous training and racing program. Greg worked with Chloe’s cycling coach, Sian Mulholland, to develop an innovative training program that complemented her cycling specific training.
Chloe has enjoyed training with Greg; she looks forward to their sessions and appreciates the practical assistance he provides both in the gym and in designing simple exercises and programs that can be applied during training and competition. Chloe’s strength and flexibility has improved considerably throughout the season and she has also recorded some impressive results. In November 2006 she became the youngest person to win Canberra’s Tour de Femme from a field of 600 female riders. She won silver and bronze medals in the Oceania Games in Melbourne in Dec 06 and won multiple gold medals in the NSW Track Championships. In January 2007 Chloe won silver in the Kieran and gold in the Criterium at the Australian Youth Olympics Festival in an international field featuring riders from Australia, New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Malaysia. In addition to these competitions she has competed in A Grade in the Tasmanian Christmas Track Racing Carnivals, the Burnie Criterium, Cronulla International Criterium as well as the Jayco Bay Criterium Series and been competitive in all of these events.
Chloe has made a good transition into the senior ranks. She has developed as an athlete and is now regarded as one of the best female road and track riders in the ACT. While she has returned some good results the most impressive aspect of her transition has been the willingness she has shown to compete one-on-one against some of the best and strongest female riders in the world. Her strength and confidence enables her to fight for position in the peloton against older and more experienced riders. The personal Posture & Flexibility training provided by Greg Laughlin has been a significant factor in her successful transition to much tougher competition and more demanding training."
