Articles
A number of my articles may be found below. We intend to keep a 'top ten' here, and in the process of rotation, consign the remainder to an archive.
Some of these articles have been published; the publication will be noted alongside the heading, together with the date.
Do you want to diet? Don't!
In this article, I consider alterations to one's ordinary eating routine as a means of getting the muscle weight to fat weight ratio that you want (not “How to lose weight!") and, in particular, I compare various approaches to eating as a means to this end.
Sensible Eating
Chapter from Stretching & Pregnancy, 2001.
Pro-Active Occupational Health and Safety
Inaugural COMCARE National Rehabilitation Conference; Canberra, November 2003.

How can I improve my golf?
This non-technical article explores how we learn sophisticated skills like driving a golf ball accurately via a good swing.
Getting back to work
This explores the varoius mechanisms that can stop someone from returning to full-time work.
Piriformis and its role in sciatica
Myotherapy Journal of Australia.
A little known, and less understood, muscle deep in the buttock can cause all the symptoms of full-blown sciatica.
The role of iliopsoas in neck and back pain & its treatment
Pointers, Journal of the Shiatsu Association of Australia, 1998.
An exploration of the global significance of this muscle group, both posturally and in terms of its role in neck and back pain, dynamically and statically.
The downside of the high heel
What to consider as you are about to step into those Manolo Blahniks!
Maintaining the scholar
Antithesis, the journal for Australian National University post-graduate students.
Most advice to post-grad students is aimed at improving the relations with the supervisor, and the wellbeing of the scholar can be forgotten.
Hidden causes of back problems
Journal of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
This is a technical article on the 'hidden' causes of back pain, written for doctors. Referenced.
What makes a good massage good?
Australian Massage Magazine.
How do we know if a massage is going to be good---even great---the moment the therapist first touches you?
Neck and back pain: are conventional treatments effective?
A Current Affair, 1997.
The background information that led to three appearences on ACA, and which started all our workshops!
Hidden muscular causes of neck and back pain
Chiropractic & Osteopathic College of Australasia Conference, November 1999.
The three 'big ones' are considered here: piriformis, quadratus lumborum, and levator scapulae.

TESTIMONIAL
“Experiencing the benefits has encouraged me to incorporate the contract and relax principle of stretch therapy into yoga classes I teach. This has had a remarkable effect in assisting students in becoming more flexible and developing strength."
Kayte Walton, Yoga Teacher, Canberra, Australia
